Has anyone else noticed that Kraft Foods has been getting awfully creative with the packaging and design of their ever-so-famous Oreo cookies? The best improvement by far has been the re-sealable package design that allows you to way too easily open and close that little rectangle box of chocolate and cream goodness. But in recent years they have also been messing with the cookie itself – orange filling for Halloween, mint flavored green for Christmas, even yellow at Easter and I’ve seen pink strawberry on line. And already on shelves this summer, the blue filling Oreo with cute summer images on the chocolate cookie – sail boats, beach scenes and the like.
Here’s the kicker, folks… USA Today reports that this month, Oreo will be introducing something totally new and off the wall: the oblong Oreo. Intended to address the constant struggle of dunking your Oreo in that cold glass of milk, they are actually (for a limited six week run) changing the shape and renaming the cookie “Dunkers”.

The bloggers (of which I suppose I am one) are very divided on whether or not this, or any of Oreo’s attempts to intrigue grocery store browsers with bright colors and new coatings, is a good idea. There’s been much debate over whether or not the non-flavored colors taste different than the white filling, if Oreo has gotten TOO crazy with all the different colors, not to mention the whole phenomenon of the vanilla cookie Oreo. So, I would like to hear from you, Big Blog readers…
What do you think of the idea of an oblong Oreo? If I get enough response, I will be forwarding our non-scientific survey results to the folks at Kraft for their enjoyment. My thoughts on the oblong Oreo? I’m not sure, but I want one.
