Big Communications Inc. is a 10-year-old marketing and communications firm founded by industry veteran John Montgomery.
Montgomery in 1995 launched the firm from his loft apartment on Morris Avenue, and it since has grown to employ 15 people with a national presence. The company offers public relations, branding, media placement, broadcast production, strategic planning, research, Web design and interactive services.
On launching his firm, Montgomery says, “There was nowhere I really wanted to work in Birmingham, and I really wanted to do my own thing.” The firm’s sole owner, Montgomery adds that he enjoys running the company, despite initial fears of starting his own business.
Recent campaigns include work for Giattina Fisher Aycock Architects Inc., a Clean Air initiative for the city, and a first-time advertising campaign for Cooper Green Hospital in downtown Birmingham.
Among its honors is a local ADDY – an advertising industry award – for the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s 1917 AIDS clinic and a 2004 nomination for the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business of the Year Award.
