The Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau recently added a new advertisement in its DiverseCity campaign, a series of print ads that show off the diversity of the city. This latest ad features three Birmingham natives who have helped to put the city on the pop culture map: “American Idol” winners Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks and finalist Bo Bice.
The ad copy, targeted toward meeting planners, reads: The diversity of world class entertainment. If America could vote on our meeting and convention facilities, we’d win that too. Choose Birmingham for your next event.
“The goal of the ad is to position Birmingham as a center for great entertainment of all varieties,” said bureau President James H. Smither. “I think the world is beginning to see that we have an abundance of talent, and we want to remind meeting planners that this quality of entertainment is available year round here.”
Smither said the bureau has local Fox affiliate Fox 6 WBRC to thank in part for the advertisement. The local station helped to secure rights to the photos of the now famous musicians.
Created by Birmingham advertising and public relations firm Big Communications, the DiverseCity campaign also includes ads that tout Birmingham’s world class golf, top-notch shopping, award-winning restaurants, high-tech meeting facilities, historic sites and much more.
The new DiverseCity ad will run this fall in national meeting trade publications as well as consumer publications.
