With new admissions goals and standards, the university needed to reintroduce itself as a smart choice for students. Big communications was engaged by the Mobile Airport Authority to help promote the Mobile Airport to local residents and neighboring communities. Unable to compete on fairs, the airport was in need of a branding position that would encourage locals to support their ‘home town’ airport. In the spring of 2009, Big was approached by our oldest client The Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau about trying to increase hotel bookings. It was a challenging time period for travel as the economy was still very speculative and people were watching budgets closely. To combat this emotional wariness, we knew we would have to do something unexpected and attention grabbing. When Big first began work with the Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce, they had just finished their annual Village to Village Run. After 6 years the event was pulling in somewhere between 100-125 runners. As the largest fundraiser for the chamber, it was important that this event continue to grow. With Big's guidance and creative assistance, the 2010 Village to Village Run had over 700 participants – a 460% increase over previous years due in large part to the branding and advertising surrounding the campaign.
