Continuing to helm Big by example, founder and CEO John Montgomery was announced this week as a member of the Leadership Alabama Class XXXI for the 2021–2022 calendar year.

One of 76 leaders selected, Montgomery and professional peers from various industries across the state will convene regularly to seek mutual understanding of problems and priorities for Alabama’s future. During these alignments, members will hear challenging presentations and participate in class discussions to make critical, thoughtful assessments of our state and its varying issues, in addition to initiatives underway to address these.

“I am honored to be part of this collection of Alabama leaders, many of whom I have known and done business with for years,” Montgomery said. “I look forward to working together to confront sometimes challenging issues in our state and hear innovative ways to move us forward together.”

Since founding Big in 1995, Montgomery has been a vocal advocate of both Birmingham and the State of Alabama as a whole. His team of strategic and creative communicators lead marketing efforts for a number of Alabama industries and state accounts including the Alabama Department of Commerce and the Alabama State Department of Education, and is heavily aligned with the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, among others. Locally, he donates support and resources to local flagship events and attractions including Kiwanis, Birmingham Museum of Art, Birmingham Promise and Sidewalk Film Festival.

In addition to Leadership Alabama Class of 2021-2022, Montgomery has earned numerous regional and local accolades, including recognition in the 2020 Birmingham Business Journal CEO awards, Ad Age Small Agency of the Year 2013, Leadership Birmingham in 2010, American Ad Fed Birmingham Chapter Silver Medal in 2011 and Birmingham Business Journal Top 40 under 40 in 1998.
